Whitening

Bleaching/Whitening is considered to be amongst the most conservative and non-invasive dental treatments. It is used to correct discoloration and also to achieve a whiter smile to meet the aesthetic concerns of patients. There are intrinsic and extrinsic factors contributing to the characteristics of a discolored tooth.

Intrinsic discoloration is associated with properties of the enamel and dentin, while the extrinsic staining is associated with staining caused by food and drink debris. As a result, bleaching materials have their limitations. The intrinsic discoloration of teeth associated with the use of antibiotics or fever during teeth development, for example, cannot be corrected by just dental bleaching.

However, the “yellowness” could be corrected to a certain degree depending on the concentration, time in contact with the teeth as well as the duration of treatment. Bleaching/whitening can also have side effects. The most common side effect would be thermal sensitivity as well as gingival irritation, both of which are usually transient and reversible, and can be minimized by having the treatment done under the supervision of our trained dental team.

At Eastbridge Dental Care, we have the ability to provide you with in office as well as at home whitening systems. The key with any whitening system is to be consistent with the treatment. Please ask our office for our promotions and/or details regarding the cost.
